HOW IT HAPPENED
- vs. Knox
- Down 1-0 heading into the fifth inning during their first game on Sunday, University of Chicago (12-19, 11-5 MWC) exploded for seven runs highlighted by a pair of doubles from Matthew Wills and Braden Jirovec. This would be more than enough to get by Knox (8-20, 3-13 MWC) thanks to the pitching effort from Dev Rupani and David Flanagan that held the Prairie Fire to just two runs.
- UChicago would go on to score two more in the seventh before putting another six runs up in the eighth to go up by much more than the 10 tallies needed to end the game early. All but one UC batter earned at least one RBI with Jirovec and Jonathan Zeevi each earning three apiece in the 15-2 victory.
- vs. Monmouth
- The Maroons then made the short trek up the road to finish up their series against Monmouth (15-13, 8-7 MWC) in what was originally supposed to be a home game earlier in the month but was postponed due to rain. Again, the UC pitchers were on their game and saw Hayden Leiderman earn his third win behind seven innings of scoreless five hit baseball. He was then followed by Kason Pelz who wrapped up the shutout with two more blank frames.
- The bus ride didn't slow down the offense either. They plated eight runs against the Fighting Scots with RBIs coming from Jirovec, Zeevi, Eddie McCarthy, Richard Lu, and Jack Sharp in the shutout victory.
- vs. Illinois Tech
- The Maroons went down to Illinois Tech 7-0 before the bottom of the third rolled around. UChicago got on the board with three in the frame before plating four more between the fifth and six innings to enter the final three stanzas down by a single run at 8-7.
- After a scoreless seventh, the Scarlet Hawks got three in the eighth, but UC stayed within striking distance with two of their own during their next at bats. However, IIT couldn't be silenced in the ninth and pushed across six more tallies on their way to a 17-10 victory over the Maroons.
WHO'S ON DECK
The Maroons will finish their season series with Ripon in another unique way at home on Wednesday. They'll start at 1:00 pm from J. Kyle Anderson Field but will finish their second game against the Red Hawks (UChicago up 4-3 top nine) before beginning their regularly scheduled nine inning game immediately after the conclusion of the previous contest.
