Buccaneers Plunder Pair Of Wins From Maroons

CHICAGO – University of Chicago baseball finally opened up their 2024 home slate by welcoming Beloit College in games that were postponed from this past Tuesday. The Maroons were within arms reach of the victory in both contests but couldn't close out in a pair of losses to the Buccaneers.

RESULTS
Beloit – 4
UChicago – 2

Beloit – 12
UChicago – 8

HOW IT HAPPENED
  • Game One
    • Defending Midwest Conference (MWC) champion Beloit (13-6, 6-2 MWC) struck first in the University of Chicago's (4-15, 3-2 MWC) 2024 home opener with a pair of runs in the top of the first before going up 3-0 after a single in the fifth.
    • The Maroons would answer right back however and get on the board when Michael Gladden hit a bomb to left field to score Jackson Slipock and cut the Buccaneers lead down to just one.
    • However, UChicago wouldn't be able to get any closer. Beloit added an insurance tally in the top of the sixth with a home run of their own and would go on to win the game by the score of 4-2.
  • Game Two
    • The Maroons were dealt another deficit to come back from in game two, but it was only a single run that was scored by Beloit in the first inning. UChicago got that back and more when they plated five in a third stanza that was helped by an inning extending error by the Bucs right fielder.
    • Beloit got their offense going in the fifth and sixth frames which forced Chicago to enter the bottom half of the sixth even at 5-5. Slipock, Erik Rindner, and Eddie McCarthy drove in a run though and the Maroons would go into the back half of the ballgame up 8-5.
    • Unfortunately, the bullpen had a hard time sitting Beloit down. BC scored two in the eighth to get within one before plating five unearned runs in the top of the ninth to take the lead and eventually the ballgame 12-8.
NOTABLE PERFORMANCES WHO'S ON DECK
The Maroons have a quick turnaround as they'll take on Monmouth in a doubleheader on Saturday starting at 12:00 pm. However, their single contest against the Fighting Scots on Sunday has already been postponed due to inclement weather having been forecasted.
