#9 Men's Soccer Record Fourth Straight Win

AURORA, Ill. – University of Chicago men's soccer took to the pitch against Aurora on Sunday looking to move their shutout streak to four games in a row. While they allowed their opponent to score a goal for the first time in over 270 minutes, the Maroons easily dispatched the Spartans behind a big first half.

RESULT
No. 9 UChicago – 4
Aurora – 2

HOW IT HAPPENED
  • No. 9 University of Chicago (4-1) began the game against the 2023 NACC regular season champions in style when Evan Kanellos set up Max Weene for a goal just three minutes after the opening kickoff. Aurora (1-3-2) became the team to finally break through the Maroons defense for the first time in quite some time when they tallied the equalizer in the 19th minute.
  • The tie that the Spartans worked so hard to achieve lasted just 13 seconds. Robbie Pino and David Martin were credited with the assists on Danny Mendoza's goal at 18:46 but he wouldn't have the honor of earning the game winner. That right went to Edward Wu after he put in a Lyndon Hu pass into the back of the net to make it 3-1 UChicago in the 33rd minute.
  • However, the Maroon and White were not done scoring the in the first 45 minutes. They put their fourth and final goal of the opening stanza past the Spartans keeper when Wu assisted Alex Lee with just under six minutes left before halftime.
  • Aurora cut the Maroons lead in half when they scored their second goal of the game shortly after the start of the back half of the contest, but the 4-2 score would be the last update. UChicago outshot Aurora 17-11 and allowed just three Spartan shots to get on goal in their fourth win of the season.
