ALBION, Mich. – Coming off back-to-back wins last weekend, the (RV) University of Chicago volleyball team swept Alma College in their first match of the 2024 Albion Invitational. In a dominant fashion, the Maroons aggressive offense took control early on.
RESULTS
Alma College – 0 (11, 14, 20)
(RV) UChicago – 3 (25, 25, 25)
HOW IT HAPPENED
- From the beginning, Chicago jumped out to an early 5-1 lead as they capitalized on errors made by the Scots. Finding open areas in the back line made it easier for the Maroons to attack as they collected 14 kills in the first set. Their 25-11 final score made it one the largest margin of victory sets this season.
- In set two, Isabel Cai recorded back-to-back aces to open the scoring. UChicago took advantage of their momentum and had another fast start, once leading 13-4. To take the match, the Maroons went on a 9-3 run as point 25 was sealed by a hit from Amelia Gibbs.
- UChicago recorded a total of 18 attacks for the final set of the match. Diya Mishra led all teams in points, while Thalita Marangon completed 10 kills and eight digs. As a team, The Maroons tied their season-high with 11 service aces.
