Women's Soccer Falls in Close Battle to Hope College

CHICAGO – No. 25 University of Chicago women's soccer faced an all-out fight against Hope College this Saturday afternoon. The battle focused on the defensive side of the ball as both teams set the level of aggression for the match very early on.

RESULTS
 Hope College – 2
#25 UChicago – 1

HOW IT HAPPENED
  • As Hope went on the board first, UChicago answered back in the 25th minute as Sarah Ginsburg buried the ball deep into the net to tie the score at one. The goal was the senior's second score this season.
  • The first half went on and both the Maroons and the Dutch defenses forced the ball to stay in the midfield. A total of 14 shots were taken, nine were from UChicago. In the same period, goalie Sophie Pilarski recorded two crucial saves as the match remained tied at end of time for the first.
  • The game remained neck-and-neck for the first minutes of the second half, though the Dutch capitalized on a small opportunity and netted one in the 85th minute.
  • Compared to the first half, Chicago only took two shots in the second. They recorded three corner kicks but were shielded from scoring by the difficult Hope defense.
  • Though the contest ended in a loss for the Maroons, the match set a standard for the defense's aggression. UChicago played as a tough line, only allowing the Dutch a total of six shots on goal for the entire affair. The precedent that is being set is important as conference starts within the next few weeks.
