Cho's Two Goal Game Pushes Maroons Past North Park

CHICAGO – The University of Chicago women's soccer team had no problem with the weather as they rained down six goals in their midweek matchup win against North Park University. It was an all-out team effort as five different Maroons put a score on the board.

HOW IT HAPPENED
  • North Park opened up the scoring drive first, but within 30 seconds Mary Stuart Kerrigan answered back for the Maroons knocking one in for the tie 10 minutes into the match.
  • As ball time stayed torn between the two teams, Chicago managed to drive for a corner kick down the left side of the field. The ball bounced around from Kaitlyn Gomez to Karena Shah to finally hitting Ella Cho for the perfect touch into the net.
  • Right before heading into halftime with a one score lead, Anna Thomann gave the Maroons some extra security as she added another goal. Chicago's aggression started from the beginning. The force of attack allowed them to take a total of 12 shots in the first half with six on target.
  • Energy stayed high for UChicago as Indira Naylor unfastened the second half with a goal in the 53rd minute. Though the Vikings quickly responded to make it 4-2, Ella Cho again found the back of the net off a pass from senior Josie Majowka to extend the lead even further for the Maroons.
  • As time winded down Cate Brown rushed to help Chicago add some certainty for the end of the match. At 86:37 the freshman notched her first collegiate goal right above the penalty box for a 6-2 lead. North Park was able to slide another score in, but UChicago had set themselves up well for no change to the outcome of the match.

WHO'S ON DECK
The Maroons will stay at home this weekend as they host UW-Oshkosh on Stagg Grass this Saturday. Kickoff is set for 2 pm.
