Men’s Basketball Pulls Away in Second Half to Defeat CWRU

CHICAGO – The University of Chicago men's basketball team came from behind in the second half to secure dominant victory over Case Western Reserve on Sunday afternoon at the Gerald Ratner Athletics Center. With the win, UChicago improves to 11-3 overall and 2-1 in UAA play.

HOW IT HAPPENED
  • The Maroons struggled in the first half, trailing 32-30 at the break, but they came out firing in the second half, shooting 53.85% from the field and 50% from three-point range. UChicago's offensive surge was led by Daniel Cochran, who finished with 16 points and 17 rebounds, dominating the glass with a team-high 15 defensive boards. Cochran's all-around effort played a key role in UChicago taking control in the second half.
  • UChicago saw solid contributions from several players. Joe Berry had 13 points, including a perfect 1-1 from three-point range, and Jackson Piotrowski added 13 points as well, knocking down 5-9 shots from the field. Thomas Kurowski chipped in with 12 points, including a pair of threes, while Eamonn Kenah contributed five points and grabbed five rebounds.
  • The Maroons were particularly effective in the second half, shooting 53.85% from the field and 50% from three, while also going 9-11 (81.8%) from the free-throw line. This offensive surge helped UChicago outscore Case Western 41-28 in the second half and take control of the game.
  • UChicago's bench provided valuable minutes, contributing 12 points. Luke Smith had  six points and three rebounds in 12 minutes of play, while Phillip Lawrence added four points and three assists in 18 minutes. The bench's contributions helped keep the Maroons fresh throughout the game, particularly during a fast-paced second half.
