CHICAGO – In a hard-fought battle at the Gerald Ratner Athletics Center, the No. 23/24 University of Chicago women's basketball team defeated Case Western Reserve for back-to-back conference wins on Sunday afternoon. The win improved UChicago's record to 12-2 overall and 2-1 in UAA play, while Case Western dropped to 6-8 and 1-2 in the conference.

HOW IT HAPPENED

• The Maroons were led by a stellar performance from Kate Gross, who scored 25 points, including 4-5 from three-point range and a perfect 7-7 from the free-throw line. Gross provided a steady offensive presence, especially in the first and third quarters, helping UChicago build and maintain a lead throughout the game. Kasi Samuda also made a significant impact, contributing eight points and grabbing eight rebounds in just 16 minutes of play. Her work on the glass was vital, particularly in the second half, as UChicago extended their lead.
• The Maroons' defense held strong. They limited Case Western to just 27.9% shooting from the field and 18.5% from beyond the arc. UChicago's defense forced difficult shots, and were able to keep the CWRU offense in check for much of the game. The Maroons also capitalized on free-throw opportunities, finishing the game shooting 88.9% (16-18) from the line, with a crucial 11-13 showing in the fourth quarter to seal the victory.
• In addition to Gross and Samuda's efforts, the UChicago bench played an important role. Annabelle Spotts and Paige Lim each contributed timely points, while Bri Simpson added six points and three rebounds in her 23 minutes of action. The bench's contributions gave the Maroons the depth they needed to sustain their intensity throughout the game.
• Chicago displayed strong defense, efficient free-throw shooting, and key contributions from their stars and bench players. UChicago executed down the stretch and walked away with a comfortable win.
