ATLANTA– Hitting the road for another weekend of conference matchups the University of Chicago women's basketball team came up just short in a hard-fought battle against Emory University on the road, falling 47-52 in a tough UAA matchup at the Woodruff P.E. Center in Atlanta.
FINAL SCORE
Emory - 52
#21 UChicago - 47
HOW IT HAPPENED
- The game was a gritty back-and-forth affair, with both teams trying to find their offensive grove at times. Despite Chicago holding their own through three quarters, Emory pulled ahead for the win.
- Though falling behind early, Chicago only trailed by 6 at the break (23-29). A strong third quarter, where the Maroons shot 54.5% from the field, put them back into contention, cutting Emory's lead to just 3 entering the final period.
- On the defensive end, UChicago fought hard, grabbing 37 rebounds and limiting Emory to 36.4% shooting. The Maroons did well to force turnovers (9 points off turnovers), as they tried to hold the Eagles.
- UChicago's offense was led by Bri Simpson, who came off the bench to score 13 points, including three three-pointers. Caroline Workman chipped in with nine points, and Kasi Samuda contributed seven points and seven rebounds.
- With the season still young, the Maroons will look to regroup and focus on improving their offensive consistency as they prepare for their next challenge.
