CLAREMONT, Cali. – The University of Chicago women's basketball team opened the 2025 portion of their season with a hard-fought win over Pomona- Pitzer. FINAL SCORE
Pomona- Pitzer - 75
#18/25 UChicago - 82

HOW IT HAPPENED
  • A balanced attack from Chicago gave them the upper hand early on over the Sagehens. The Maroons had several standout performances, most notably from sophomore guard Sophia North, who led all scorers with 23 points on 8-of-11 shooting, including a scorching 5-of-7 from beyond the arc. Alongside North, senior Bella Alfaro provided a crucial scoring spark, finishing with 17 points, including a perfect 6-for-7 from the free-throw line.
  • Pomona-Pitzer had kept the game close, particularly in the second quarter when they outscored UChicago 25-16, but the Maroons' defense tightened in the final moments which allowed them to hold on before the Sagehens could jump to a lead.
  • While the first three quarters of the game were tightly contested, it was UChicago's dominant fourth quarter that ultimately secured the victory. UChicago held the Sagehens to just 17 points in the fourth quarter, while they poured in 27 points to pull away.
  • The Maroons shot 75% from the field in the final period, including a perfect 2-for-2 from three-point range. With the game tied at 75 with just over a minute remaining, the Maroons closed out the game with a 7-0 run to secure the hard-earned victory.
  • Keeping to the balance, junior Caroline Workman grabbed 7 rebounds, and sophomore Bri Simpson added 11 points in a solid 21-minute outing.
