CHICAGO, Ill. -- The 7th-ranked University of Chicago women's soccer team opened UAA play with a thrilling 3-2 victory over #25 New York University on Saturday afternoon as they celebrated their Pride game.

UChicago got on the board early in the 19th minute when Kamiryn Braxton Grimes finished a perfect passing sequence from Indira Naylor and Lucy Harrison-Caldwell. Just over ten minutes later, Kaitlyn Gomez played a great touch around the defender, and she laid a pass off to Kate Bruntlett in the box, but the NYU defender took her out in the box to give the Maroons their first penalty kick of the season. Mary Stuart Kerrigan stepped up to the spot and converted the penalty kick to double the UChicago lead. NYU would respond with a goal off a corner kick in the 42nd minute to cut the lead in half just before the halftime whistle.

The second half saw UChicago put more intense pressure on the Violets. Just under 10 minutes into the half, it was Harrison-Caldwell making things happen again for the Maroons as she slipped a pass into the 18 to find Indira Naylor, but Naylor was taken out for the second penalty kick opportunity of the game for UChicago. Kerrigan was called upon once again, and she delivered with a perfect placement to the top right corner to push the lead back to 3-1. NYU made a late push and pulled a goal back in the 83rd minute when Julia Spang found the net, but the Maroons' defense held firm over the final minutes to secure the win.

UChicago outshot NYU 12-7, including a 7-5 edge in shots on goal, and Sophia Sasaki recorded three saves to earn the victory.

With the win, the Maroons improve to 9-0-1 on the season and 1-0 in the UAA.
