Edward Wu Brace Vaults Men's Soccer to 4-0 Win over NYU in UAA Opener

CHICAGO, Ill. -- The University of Chicago men's soccer team opened UAA play in dominating fashion with a 4-0 victory over the New York University Violets.

After a scoreless first half, UChicago was able to find the back of the net for the first time in the 51st minute after Giovanni Caselli found a slashing Edward Wu at the top of the 18, and Wu was able to bury the go-ahead goal to put the Maroons on top 1-0.

Just 19 seconds later, Wu recorded a brace as his right foot found a bounding ball at the top of the 18, and he struck his foot through the ball and into the net for a 2-0 lead. The 19 seconds between goals is the shortest amount of time between goals by the same player in recorded UChicago history.

Six minutes later, the Maroons would stretch their advantage to three after Vaughn DeRath and Jadyn Hsieh-Bailey connected before slipping a ball through the NYU backline to find Alex Gomas who beat the keeper for the goal.

In the 63rd minute, UChicago extended their lead to four with the final goal as William Stewart lifted a cross to the back post, finding the head of Chase Perry, who found the back of the net. The goal for Perry is his third goal in the past four games.

The Maroons outshot the Violets 21-4 in the contest. Ali Alamery and Josh Nimeroff combined to bring home the team's fourth consecutive clean sheet and extend the shutout streak to 441 minutes with 3 saves as a team.

With the win, the Maroons improve to 7-1-3 and extend their unbeaten streak to ten consecutive games, tied for the fifth-longest streak in program history. The University of Chicago returns to action on Monday, October 6, as they host the (RV) Illinois Tech Scarlet Hawks in their final non-conference match of the season.
