Game Recap: Women's Volleyball |

Volleyball Falls to #4 UW-Whitewater

WHITEWATER, Wis. -- The (RV) University of Chicago women's volleyball team traveled to Wisconsin to take on its fifth top-25 opponent this season. Though battling out each set to the final points, the Maroons fell 3-0 to a powerful Warhawk frontline.

The Maroons showed a spark from the opening set as they took UW-Whitewater down to the wire. Points were traded back and forth until a block by Olivia Zamis and Thalita Marangon tied the match at 20. Caroline Sele recorded a kill to push Chicago up 21-20, and the teams would continue to trade points until the Maroons had a set point opportunity, leading 24-23. The Warhawks fought off the set point and earned a set point of their own, and despite a kill by Diya Mishra to save the first set point, the Warhawks would take the opening set 27-25.

In sets two and three Chicago stayed competitive with UW-Whitewater. The Maroons lead 20-19 in the second set, but the Warhawks scored five of the next six points to set up triple set points. UChicago was able to save two of them, but the UW-Whitewater would take the second set 25-23. The Maroons then led for the majority of the third set until a late flurry allowed the Warhawks to win the set 25-20 to take the match.

Mishra set the pace for the Maroons' offense with 14 kills, six digs, and three blocks. Freshman Adelee Kaiton had another good showing in her first season with six kills and five digs.

Ellie Maxwell and Hillary Cheung combined for 29 assists as the duo also recorded three aces and ten digs.

The Maroons will hit the road again next weekend as they head to Cleveland for the second UAA Round Robin. Chicago will take on #7 Emory and Brandeis on Sunday afternoon.
