HOW IT HAPPENED
  • The first half was tightly contested, with UChicago and CWRU exchanging leads early on. CWRU held a narrow 15-14 advantage after the first quarter, but UChicago responded with a strong defensive effort in the second, limiting CWRU to just eight points. The Maroons capitalized, tying the game at 28-28 by halftime.
  • After the break, UChicago found its rhythm offensively. The Maroons exploded for 21 points in the third quarter, powered by a balanced scoring attack. Kate Gross helped lead the charge with 13 points in the game, contributing key buckets in both halves, while Annabelle Spotts came off the bench to add a team-high 14 points, including 3-4 from the free-throw line.
  • CWRU fought back in the third quarter, but the Maroons' defense stifled their shooting, particularly from three-point range, where CWRU struggled throughout, hitting just 4-29 (13.8%). UChicago's defensive pressure, combined with efficient offense, allowed the Maroons to steadily pull away in the fourth quarter, where they outscored CWRU 18-10.
  • UChicago dominated inside, scoring 32 points in the paint while limiting CWRU to just 26. Second-chance points also played a pivotal role, as UChicago outscored CWRU 13-14 in that category. The Maroons' depth was another key factor, with 25 bench points compared to just five from CWRU's reserves.
