CLAREMONT, Calif. – The University of Chicago women's lacrosse team kicked off its 2025 season in winning fashion, pulling away in the second half for a 13-6 victory over Claremont-Mudd-Scripps on Friday evening at Zinda Field. The Maroons used a balanced offensive attack and a stifling defensive effort to secure their first win of the season.
After a defensive battle in the opening quarter, UChicago found its rhythm in the second, with Lulu Hardy netting the Maroons' first goal off an assist from Peyton McGuire. Moments later, Evelina Swigart and Sora Choi added back-to-back goals to give UChicago a 3-2 halftime lead.
The Maroons took full control in the third quarter, scoring four unanswered goals to build a commanding lead. McGuire, Choi, and Song found the back of the net, while Olivia Escoffery capped the run with her first goal of the season. UChicago's defense was relentless, forcing 30 turnovers and holding CMS to just one goal in the fourth quarter.
Choi led the attack with four goals, including two in the final minutes to seal the win. McGuire added two goals and two assists, Song had two goals, while Swigart, Hardy, Escoffery, Kodl, and Hooey each tallied a goal. Wynne Boggan facilitated the offense with a game-high four assists.
Defensively, goalkeeper Rachel Keefe anchored the Maroons with 14 saves, shutting down multiple free-position attempts and keeping CMS at bay. Teaghan Casey and Sophie Lynn were active in forcing turnovers and collecting ground balls to disrupt the Athenas' attack.
