CHICAGO – The University of Chicago women's lacrosse team put on a commanding performance in its home opener, rolling past Kalamazoo 22-3 on Wednesday night at Stagg Field. The Maroons (2-1) set the tone early, racing out to a 10-goal first quarter and never looking back as 13 different players found the back of the net.
Offensive Explosion in the First Half
UChicago wasted no time getting on the board, with
Jill Hooey opening the scoring less than a minute into the game off a feed from
Jane Chen. The Maroons kept the pressure on, rattling off six unanswered goals.
Peyton McGuire was unstoppable, netting four goals, while
Olivia Escoffery had three and
Lulu Hardy added a pair.
Avery Song and
Jill Hooey fueled the attack with multiple assists, helping UChicago build a 10-2 lead after the first quarter.
The second quarter was more of the same, as
Skylar Lienhardt,
Charlotte Semlies, and
Wynne Boggan added to the Maroons' lead. UChicago entered halftime with a 16-3 advantage, holding Kalamazoo to just three first-half goals while dominating possession.
Shutout Second Half Seals the Win
UChicago's defense locked in after halftime, shutting out Kalamazoo over the final two quarters.
Rachel Keefe,
Kate Kim,
Gabrielle Kiewe, and
Kate Snyder all saw time in goal, combining for five saves while limiting the Hornets to just 11 total shots.
The Maroons continued their offensive efficiency, adding six more goals in the second half. McGuire, Escoffery, and
Nicoletta Tsiamis all found the net, while Song,
Grace Hopkins, and Hooey added to their assist totals.
