DAVENPORT, Fla - The University of Chicago baseball team (11-4) exploded for a commanding 25-8 win over Carleton (3-3) on Thursday evening in Davenport, Florida. The Maroons' offense was in full swing, tallying 25 runs on 21 hits in a game that saw them break open a tight contest with a multi-inning barrage of runs.
After a scoreless first two innings, Chicago broke through in the third, plating six runs. Max Weisner's two-RBI single and Eddie McCarthy's two-RBI double got the Maroons on the board. Jack Sharp added an RBI single, and Braden Jirovec followed with a run-scoring single to push the lead to 6-0. The offense didn't slow down, adding another seven runs in the fourth inning. Weisner's two-run double, along with a pair of wild pitches and a two-RBI double by Jackson Sliplock, fueled the outburst. Chicago now led 13-0.
Carleton would respond with three runs in the fourth inning, but the damage was already done. The Maroons added four more in the fifth, led by a three-RBI double from Weisner. Chicago continued to pour it on in the sixth inning with a 7-run rally, highlighted by a Brady Miller triple and a Jack Sharp triple.
Carleton's efforts to climb back into the game fell short, as the Maroons' pitchers held strong throughout. Russell Kwinter (2-0) earned the win after tossing four solid innings, allowing three earned runs while striking out five. The bullpen was also effective, with Mike Sosna, Grant Tenuta, and David Flanagan keeping the Knights at bay.
Offensively, UChicago was led by Weisner, who went 4-for-5 with seven RBIs, while Sharp, McCarthy, and Jirovec each had multiple hits and contributed significantly to the run production. McCarthy and Sharp also drove in five runs apiece, and Miller added two RBIs with a triple.
Chicago will look to carry this momentum forward as they continue their spring break tomorrow against Coe at 1 p.m. EST.Â
