CHICAGO - The University of Chicago Women's Lacrosse team turned in a dominant performance on Saturday afternoon, securing a commanding 22-5 victory over Albion College at Stagg Field. The Maroons (6-4) overwhelmed the Britons (2-6), particularly in the first half, where they built an insurmountable 16-2 lead.
UChicago came out strong from the opening whistle, with Lulu Hardy setting the tone early. She scored three goals in the first half, including one at 12:36 to push the lead to 10-1. The Maroons were efficient on both sides of the ball, with contributions from multiple players. Peyton McGuire added three goals, and Evelina Swigart chipped in two, as UChicago ran away with the game.
Defensively, UChicago was relentless, limiting Albion to just one goal in the first quarter and two in the second. Albion's lone first-half bright spots came from Kellie Flynn and Anna Huard, who each found the back of the net, but the Britons struggled to sustain any offensive momentum.
The second half continued much like the first, with UChicago controlling the tempo. The Maroons scored six unanswered goals in the third quarter, including strikes from Alexis Veldhuis and Nicoletta Tsiamis, before Albion managed a brief flurry with goals from Ellen Chown in the fourth quarter to make it 20-5. However, it was too little, too late, as UChicago maintained their dominance to the final whistle.
In total, 13 different players scored for the Maroons, with Hardy leading the charge with six goals, as her goal at the 6:50 mark in the third quarter recorded her 300th career point. McGuire and Swigart followed closely behind with three and two goals, respectively. Jill Hooey was particularly active, tallying three assists to go along with one goal.
