Women's Lacrosse Earns First Top-20 Win with Kailee See Late Heroics

CHICAGO, Ill. -- The #24 University of Chicago women's lacrosse team brought home a win in thrilling fashion with a 10-9 overtime victory over #17 Colorado College.

Lulu Hardy got the women on the board first with a goal just five minutes into the contest to give the Maroons a quick 1-0 lead over the Tigers.

After back-to-back goals by Colorado College to retake the lead, UChicago responded with three straight goals of their own by Hardy and Peyton McGuire (x2) to extend their lead to 4-2. They would take a 4-3 lead into the halftime locker room in the top-25 matchup.

In the second half, the Tigers took control with three straight goals of their own as they extended their lead to 7-5, but back-to-back goals by Jill Hooey and Olivia Escoffery leveled the scoring at seven.

In the final quarter, UChicago had several chances in the first twn minutes to tie the game back up at eight, but they were unable to find the back of the net. Then, with 4:17 to go, the Tigers added another goal to extend their lead to two.

The Maroons weren't done yet though as Jill Hooey scored with 3:15 to go, and Wynne Boggan added the game-tying goal with 1:04 remaining to complete the comeback and send the contest to overtime.

In overtime, Lulu Hardy won the draw and earned the Maroons the opening possession of the extra period. UChicago was able to capitzalize on this opportunity, and Kailee See found the back of the net for her first career goal to seal the victory.

Jill Hooey led the team with 3 second-half goals, and Peyton McGuire and Lulu Hardy each added two for the Maroons, all four coming in the first half.

Hardy also led the team with four caused turnovers and five ground ball pickups in a top-level performance from the graduate student.

Rachel Keefe was excellent in goal for UChicago with 12 saves and 5 ground balls in the win.

With the win, the Maroons improve to 4-2 overall with their first top-20 win in program history, snapping an 0-6 stretch in such games. UChicago will return to action on Sunday afternoon as they host the Saint Benedict Bennies at 1 PM CT at Stagg Field.
