#21 Baseball Falls to #25 CWRU in Series Finale

CHICAGO- The University of Chicago baseball team couldn't recover from an early deficit as they dropped the final game of their weekend series to #25 Case Western Reserve, 11–2, on Sunday at J. Kyle Anderson Field.

The visiting Spartans jumped out to a lead with runs in each of the first five innings, taking advantage of timely hitting and a pair of UChicago errors. A four-run fifth inning, highlighted by back-to-back triples from CWRU's L. Andreyko and J. Anderson, put the Maroons in a tough 8–0 hole.

The #21 Maroons briefly responded in the bottom of the fifth. Jack Sharp delivered a two-RBI single down the right field line to bring home Eddie McCarthy and Nathan Bae, trimming the deficit to six. But the Maroons were unable to build on that momentum, as the Spartan bullpen kept them off the scoreboard for the final four innings.

Jackson Bailey (3–2) took the loss on the mound, allowing one run over two innings. UChicago used seven pitchers in total, but Case Western's bats stayed hot, finishing with 12 hits and tacking on three more insurance runs in the eighth.

At the plate, the Maroons were held to five hits. Erik Rindner, Max Wiesner, and Michael Gladden each recorded base knocks, while Sharp led the team with two RBIs.

UChicago will look to bounce back as they prepare for a conference trip to Georgia to face Emory next weekend.
