CHICAGO, Ill. -- The University of Chicago women's lacrosse team brought home a 24-6 victory over Carthage on Saturday afternoon to celebrate senior day.
It was all Maroons early as they jumped out to a quick 7-0 advantage thanks to goals from five different players.
Olivia Escoffery and
Peyton McGuire eached score two goals in the opening period for UChicago. Following back-to-back goals by the Firebirds,
Jill Hooey,
Wynne Boggan, and McGuire added goals to stretch the lead to 10-2.
Skylar Lienhardt would take the team into the locker room with a 14-4 advantage following her final goal of the half.
In the second half,
Jill Hooey opened the scoring just 23 seconds into the period, and the Maoroons scored nine of the first ten goals of the half to stretch their lead to 23-5 early in the fourth quarter.
Skylar Lienhardt would score the final goal of the half for the second time and seal the 24-6 victory for the Maroons.
Peyton McGuire,
Skylar Lienhardt, and
Olivia Escoffery all led the team with four goals. McGuire added two assists for a team-high six points, and Lienhardt added one assist for five total points.
Evelina Swigart,
Jane Chen, and
Ella Kodl all added three assists in the win for the Maroons.
On the defensive end,
Jill Hooey was all over the place with a team-high 6 ground balls.
Sophie Lynn caused three turnovers, and
Evelina Swigart caused two turnovers to go along with her 16 draw controls in the win. In goal,
Rachel Keefe played nearly the whole game with 5 saves on 11 shots on goal.
Kate Kim also made an appearance, making a save on the lone shot she faced.
The University of Chicago had a pair of players reach all time milestones in their career on Saturday afternoon.
Jane Chen became just the second Maroon in school history to record 200 career points, and
Peyton McGuire tallied her 100th career point.
With the win, the Maroons improve to 9-4 overall on the season. UChicago hits the road for the final time this season on Friday, April 11, as they travel to Holland, Michigan to take on Hope.
