UNIVERSITY HEIGHTS, Ohio – The University of Chicago women's soccer team continued its dominant start to the 2025 season with a 4-0 victory over John Carrol to closeout their five-game roadtrip before returning home Saturday, Oct. 4.
With the result, the Maroons improved to 8-0-1, while posting their sixth shutout of the season. Four different players found the scoresheet, and 25 players saw action in a complete team effort.
UChicago struck first in the 15th minute, as Jamie Nguyen netted her second goal of the year to put the Maroons ahead. In the 26th minute, first-year Annabel Edwards doubled the lead with her first collegiate goal. Edwards' goal capped off the immense amount of pressure Chicago had put on the Blue Streaks.
The Maroons extended their lead early in the second half. Junior McKenzie Toomey tallied her second goal of the year in the 55th minute after an orchestrated play from Kieran Harrison and Edwards. Just two minutes later, senior Kaitlyn Gomez added her name to the scoresheet, finishing off an assist from Mary Stuart Kerrigan and Layne Kohler to make it 4–0.
UChicago controlled the match from start to finish, outshooting John Carroll 20-6 overall and 10-2 in shots on goal. The Maroons also earned seven corner kicks while not conceding any. Goalkeeper Sophia Sasaki made two saves to earn the clean sheet, supported by a defensive unit that kept the Blue Streaks out of rhythm all afternoon.
