CHICAGO - Celebrating Senior Day at Stagg Field, the University of Chicago men's soccer team extended their strong start to the 2025 season with a 2-0 victory over Kalamazoo College. The Maroons improved to 5-1-3 on the year as they controlled much of the match with pressure and a solid team defensive effort.
Despite a scoreless first half, UChicago dominated possession and attacking chances, firing 17 shots to Kalamazoo's none in the opening 45 minutes. The Maroons continually tested Kalamazoo's goalkeeper with efforts from multiple players, including close attempts by Kai Walsh, Jadyn Hsieh-Bailey, and William Stewart. UChicago's pressure was highlighted by nine corner kicks, but struggled to land one in the net.
The breakthrough finally came in the 64th minute when Kai Walsh capitalized on an assist from Jadyn Hsieh-Bailey to put the Maroons ahead 1-0. Walsh's goal enhanced the momentum and UChicago kept pushing forward. Fifteen minutes later, Hsieh-Bailey doubled the lead with a well-placed finish, securing the 2-0 advantage over the Hornets.
Defensively, the Maroons were disciplined and organized, limiting Kalamazoo to just four shots, only one on goal, throughout the match. Goalkeeper Ali Alamery recorded a clean sheet with one crucial save in the second half to record Chicago's fifth shoutout on the year. The team's pressure was reflected in the final shot tally of 27 attempts, most on the year, and 14 corner kicks.
