CHICAGO, Ill. -- The #22 University of Chicago women's volleyball team opened play at the Rosalie Resch Tournament with a hard-fought battle against #20 Wisconsin-Eau Claire, but the Maroons ultimately came up short in a 3-1 defeat.
UChicago came out energized, executing cleanly on both sides of the ball in the opening set. After the Blugolds tied the score at 22-22, Caroline Sele delivered two timely kills in the final four points to secure the set 25-23.
From there, however, Wisconsin-Eau Claire found its rhythm and controlled the next three sets to claim the match.
Ellie Maxwell continued her strong start to her freshman campaign, recording 16 assists and 11 digs for her third double-double in four matches.
Diya Mishra paced the Maroons' attack with 13 kills, extending her streak of double-digit kills to six straight matches.
On defense, Thalita Marangon anchored the back row with 13 digs and added a team-high five service aces, while Olivia Ip led the front line with four blocks.
With the loss, UChicago falls to 2-2 on the year. The #22 Maroons return to action on Saturday with two more contests to close out the Rosalie Resch Tournament—facing Lawrence University at 1:30 PM and Illinois Tech at 6:30 PM.
