FALL IN-PERSON RETREAT
The ADC met in person for the first time as a group during our Fall Retreat. Attendees enjoyed Friday evening at the University Club of Chicago, celebrating with fellow supporters of our Maroon community as we inducted four new individuals into the Athletics Hall of Fame. We were joined by university leadership, including Melina Hale, Dean of the College; Michael Hayes, Dean of Students in the University; and Armin Afsahi, Vice President for Advancement.
On Saturday, before the home football game and tailgate, participants discussed key priorities for the Department of Athletics and Recreation for the current academic year. Erienne Roberts, Deputy Athletics Director for Internal Operations, provided an insider’s look at the proposed NCAA Division III legislation changes and the process. The group also engaged in a Q&A session with Michael Hayes focused on student-athletes and their role within the UChicago student and campus community.
VIRTUAL CALL ON DEPARTMENT'S IMPACT REPORT
On June 25, 2025, the Athletic Director's Circle participated in a virtual session focused on the department's latest impact report. Director of Athletics and Recreation Angie Torain shared highlights from a successful academic year, including 16 of 20 teams advancing to postseason play and a ninth-place finish in the Learfield Directors’ Cup. The session also underscored the vital role of the Athletic Director's Circle and how its support has directly contributed to the department’s recent achievements and operational success.
ZOOM CALL WITH MARSHALL OUIM (Class of 2011)
On Tuesday, May 8, the Athletic Director's Circle met with Marshall Ouim, a 2011 graduate of the University of Chicago, to discuss the role and impact of Division III athletics, as well as the distinctions between Division I and Division III sports. A former economics major, Marshall played both baseball and football for the Maroons. He currently serves as Director of Football Strategy for the New England Patriots and has worked in the NFL since 2013, holding various roles with both the Patriots and the Cleveland Browns.
VIRTUAL MEETING WITH DIRECTOR OF ATHLETICSÂ ANGIE TORAIN
In her welcome remarks on February 11, 2025, Director of Athletics Angie Torain provided an insider’s perspective on UChicago Athletics. She highlighted the fall teams’ impressive 52-30-5 record and the advancement of four programs to postseason competition. Additional updates included the return of Craig Knoche as Head Football Coach, upcoming capital projects such as the track resurfacing, ongoing hiring efforts, and donor-supported funding priorities. Founding members were introduced, and Christina Fountain, Assistant Vice President for Development & Associate Dean of the College, also joined the virtual meeting.
