Maroons Fall to Case in Top-25 Matchup

CHICAGO -- Case Western Reserve University's Jessica Sabers scored on a breakaway with 13 minutes left in the match to lift the 18th-ranked Spartans to a 1-0 win over the 23rd-ranked University of Chicago in University Athletic Association women's soccer action Friday night at Stagg Field.

Kendra Simmons set up Sabers' goal with a long cross from near midfield. Simmons then chipped a shot into the back of the net for her second goal of the season at the 76:27 mark.

Spartan netminder Anna Kennedy stopped three saves to record the shutout.

Team Records

Suffering its first loss in four games, Chicago dropped to 8-5-2 overall and 1-2-2 in UAA play. Case won its third straight match to improve to 12-2-2 overall, 4-1 in conference action.

Beyond the Box Score

Friday's win marked the Spartans' first victory over Chicago since 1993.

In addition to their national rankings, both teams entered Friday's match ranked among the top four in their respective regions by the NCAA selection committee. Chicago stood fourth in the Central Region, while Case was second in the Great Lakes Region.

Chicago slipped to 4-3-1 at Stagg Field and 0-4-1 against top-25 opponents.
