Maroons Drop Season Debut in Overtime

RIVER FOREST, Ill. -- Dominican University's Andrew Lynch scored in the closing seconds of the first overtime period to lift the host Stars to a 2-1 victory over the University of Chicago men's soccer team in the season opener for both teams Thursday.

Lynch tallied off an assist from Kyle Boekeloo with 15 seconds remaining in the first overtime session.

Chicago scored the game's first goal in the 53rd minute when senior midfielder Stanton Coville (Powell, Ohio/ Olentangy Liberty) notched his 21st career tally. Freshman forward Michael Choquette (Springfield, Mass./ Loomis Chaffee) was credited with the assist.

Dominican evened the score on Leo Elizalde's goal in the 80th minute.

Chicago held a slim 10-8 edge on shots, but the Stars had eight corner kicks to the Maroons' two.

Dominican netminder Dan Cimicata collected four saves, while senior goalkeeper Chris Giusto (Davie, Fla./ Heritage) made one stop.

The Maroons continue their season-opening six-game road swing Sunday at Kalamazoo College. Game time is set for 2 p.m. (ET).
