Maroons women's soccer tops New York 2-0

Box Score

CHICAGO, Ill. -- In its final home game of the season, the University of Chicago women's soccer team came away with a 2-0 victory over New York University on Sunday.

The Maroons (9-4-0 overall) evened their UAA conference record at 2-2-0. The Violets (9-5-0 overall) fell to 1-3-0 in the UAA.

Chicago effectively controlled the first half and scored in the 12th minute. Sara Kwan weaved through a mass of defenders in the box and kicked it out wide to Natalia Jovanovic, who netted her fifth goal of the season.

Madeleine Horvath tallied her fourth goal of the year in the 29th minute. A corner kick led to a bouncing ball in the box, which Horvath put away. Brigette Kragie and Kwan were credited with the assists.

NYU tried to claw back into the game and played more aggressively in the second half to get runs on goal. But Chicago goalie Jacinda Reid made the lead stand up with a five-save shutout.

Chicago ended up outshooting NYU 18-8 total, with a 7-4 advantage in corners.

The Maroons will be on the road for their final five games of the regular season, starting at 7 PM on Wednesday at Wheaton College.
