Box Score 2 WINTER HAVEN, Fla. -- With a doubleheader sweep over Grinnell College Tuesday afternoon, the University of Chicago baseball team improved to 5-1 on its season-opening spring break trip. Chicago took game one 11-2 before winning the second game 5-0.
Game 1 Summary & Highlights
- Chicago scored five runs in the first inning and added five more in the sixth en route to an 11-2 victory in Tuesday's opener.
- Sophomore RF Brett Huff (Orland Park, Ill./ Sandburg) (pictured) drove in four runs, including a three-run double in the first inning.
- Junior RHP Jack Cinoman (Chicago, Ill./ Whitney Young) posted the complete-game win, as he did not allow an earned run over seven innings. He also went 3-for-4 with a pair of RBIs.
- Sophomore LF Ricky Troncelliti (Norristown, Pa./ Haverford School) collected two RBIs.
- Andrew Myers (1-1) took the loss for Grinnell after allowing five runs over five innings.
Game 2 Summary & Highlights
- Sophomore LHP Alex Terry (Omaha, Neb./ Brownell-Talbot) tossed a two-hit shutout in the Maroons' 2-0 win. He took a no-hitter into the sixth inning before Grinnell 3B Kainoa Inafuku reached on a two-out bunt single.
- Senior C Stephen Williams (Malibu, Calif./ Malibu) drove in a pair of runs, while junior 1B J.R. Lopez (Fort Collins, Colo./ Rocky Mountain) went 2-for-4 with an RBI.
- Max Jacobson (0-1) was charged with the loss for the Pioneers (2-9). He allowed three runs over 4.2 innings of work.
Notes
- Terry's shutout was the first of his career. He raised his career record to 6-1.
- Lopez has hit safely in all six games thus far in 2012.
- Through the season's first six games, Chicago's starting pitchers have recorded a 0.69 ERA.
