CHICAGO -- After winning the first game 3-0, the University of Chicago dropped an 8-7 decision in the nightcap in doubleheader action against Monmouth College Sunday at J. Kyle Anderson Field.

Game 1 Summary

• Junior Matt O'Connor (Forest Park, Ill./ Northridge) and sophomore Will Katzka (Wynnewood, Pa./ Haverford School) combined on a five-hit shutout as the Maroons took game one 3-0.
  
  
• O'Connor (2-1) scattered five hits over 6.1 innings, walking two and fanning five. Entering the game in the seventh inning with the tying run at the plate, Katzka retired the Scots' final two batters to notch his fourth save of the season.
  
  
• The Maroons held on to a 1-0 lead until sophomore DH Ricky Troncelliti (Norristown, Pa./ Haverford School) belted a two-run home run in the bottom of the sixth inning (pictured above). Returning from an injury, Troncelliti saw his first action Sunday since Mar. 23.

Game 2 Summary

• Monmouth (9-15) took advantage of five Chicago errors to plate eight unearned runs in Sunday's second game. The Scots scored three runs in the first, two in the third, and added three more in the sixth.
  
  
• Trailing 8-2, the Maroons (14-9) pushed across five runs in the bottom of the sixth. Junior C Jack Cinoman (Chicago, Ill./ Whitney Young) delivered a two-run double and later came around to score in the inning.
  
  
• Scots 3B Caleb Ruyle drove in three runs, while LF Mitch Johnson and C Jordan Gaither each collected a pair of RBIs. Luke Gschwendtner (2-0) picked up the win in two innings out of the bullpen, before Chase Harris recorded the final four outs to notch his first save.
  
  
• Troncelliti went 3-for-3 with two RBIs. On the afternoon, he had five hits in six at-bats with four RBIs.
  
  
• Sophomore P Alex Terry (Omaha, Neb./ Brownell-Talbot) took the loss (2-2). He allowed six hits and five runs -- all unearned -- in four-plus innings.

• Cinoman extended his hitting streak to 14 games.
  
  
• Katzka improved to 4-for-4 this year and 7-for-7 during his career in save opportunities.
  
  
• The game one shutout was the fifth thrown by the Maroons this spring.
