Box Score 2 ST. LOUIS, Mo. -- With solid starting pitching performances from junior Matt O'Connor and sophomore Alex Terry, the University of Chicago baseball team swept a doubleheader over 19th-ranked Washington (Mo.) University Saturday afternoon.
Game 1 Summary
- O'Connor (3-1) earned the victory as Chicago took game one 5-2 in extra innings. After allowing two runs on four hits in the first two innings, O'Connor held the Bears to only four hits over his next six frames.
- Washington led 2-1 until the Maroons evened the score with a run in the top of the fifth.
- The Bears had the potential winning run on second base in the bottom of the seventh, but O'Connor got LF Oliver Lowry to hit into a double play to end the threat and send the game into extra frames.
- Chicago scored three runs in the ninth. Junior 1B J.R. Lopez's (Fort Collins, Colo./ Rocky Mountain) bases-loaded fielder's choice brought home the go-ahead run. Senior C Stephen Williams (Malibu, Calif./ Malibu) followed with an RBI single.
- Sophomore Will Katzka (Wynnewood, Pa./ Haverford School) retired the side in order in the ninth to notch his school record sixth save of the year.
Game 2 Summary
- Six different players had multiple hits and four collected multiple RBIs as the Maroons (18-9) won game two 11-1.
- Sophomore DH Ricky Troncelliti (Norristown, Pa./ Haverford School) went 3-for-4 with two RBIs, while junior LF Jack Cinoman (Chicago, Ill./ Whitney Young) went 3-for-4 with three runs scored. En route to extending his hitting streak to 18 games, Cinoman clubbed his ninth triple of the year.
- Williams, junior CF Ben Bullock (Englewood, Colo./ Regis Jesuit), and freshman 3B Jake Mavropoulos (St. Louis, Mo./ University City) also drove in a pair of runs.
- Terry (3-2) went the distance, allowing seven hits and one run over seven innings.

- Washington (23-10) was ranked 19th this week by ABCA/Collegiate Baseball and 24th by D3baseball.com.
- The Maroons extended their winning streak over Washington to five games. Chicago swept a tripleheader last year at Stagg Field.
- Katzka remained perfect in save opportunities this season (6-for-6) and during his career (9-for-9).
