CARY, N.C. -- With a 5-1 victory over Johns Hopkins University at the 2012 NCAA Division III Women's Tennis Championship Monday afternoon, the University of Chicago earned its fourth consecutive trip to the national semifinals.
Chicago (22-4) will take on Amherst College (18-3) in semifinal action Tuesday at 12:30 p.m. (ET). Amherst defeated Carnegie Mellon University 5-4 in quarterfinal play Monday.

- The teams split the first two doubles matches. Senior Jennifer Kung (Sunnyvale, Calif./ Homestead) and junior Linden Li (Great Falls, Va./ Langley) gave the Maroons the early lead with an 8-5 win at No. 2, before the Blue Jays' No. 3 tandem of Elaine Baik and Stephanie Rettig answered with an 8-6 win.
- In the final doubles match, Chicago's No. 1 duo of seniors Kendra Higgins (Vero Beach, Fla./ Vero Beach) and Carmen VacaGuzman (Wyoming, Mich./ Grandville) overcame deficits of 4-2 and 6-4 to win 9-8, taking the tiebreaker 7-4.
- Straight set wins from Higgins (No. 1) and Kung (No. 2) in singles play put the Maroons on top 4-1.
- Freshman Kelsey McGillis (Great Falls, Va./ Flint Hill) closed out the match with a 7-5, 6-1 decision at No. 6 singles.
- Johns Hopkins ended its season at 18-6.

- Women's tennis has become the first Chicago sport to make a fourth NCAA Final Four appearance. Women's soccer has made three trips (1996, 2003, 2005); men's soccer has made one (1996).
- Monday's match marked the second meeting between Chicago and Johns Hopkins this season. Playing without Higgins, the Maroons defeated the Blue Jays 6-3 at the ITA Indoor Championship consolation semifinals on Mar. 3.
- Chicago extended its winning streak to 13 matches -- by a combined score of 90-10 -- and improved to 19-1 against Division III opponents.
- Higgins and VacaGuzman remained undefeated (17-0) against Division III doubles opponents. They extended their overall winning streak to 16 matches, as did Kung and Li.
