Box Score CHICAGO, Ill. -- Natalia Jovanovic scored a dramatic tying goal in the final seconds of regulation, but the University of Chicago women's soccer team lost in overtime 3-2 to Hope College on Wednesday.
The Maroons took their first loss to even their record at 1-1-0. The Flying Dutch improved to 2-1-0.
The opening minutes saw the visitors take charge. Hope owned possession in the early stages and hit paydirt in the 20th minute with a header goal by Lindsey Bieri.
Chicago broke through in the 35th minute and evened the proceedings on a corner kick header by Micaela Harms. The assist came from Mary Bittner.
The second half saw Chicago pick up their offense and dominate the ball. The Maroons outshot the Flying Dutch 15-2 during the second half. But with 11 minutes left in regulation, Hope went ahead 2-1 thanks to a deflection off a corner kick.
As the game's last moments ticked down, Jovanovic hit a strike on the run and into the back of the net to send the game into overtime with only 13 seconds left. Madeleine Horvath provided the assist.
Jovanovic almost helped end the game in the first 30 seconds of overtime with a long pass from across midfield to a streaking Brigette Kragie. But Kragie's shot sailed just high over the crossbar.
Only one minute later, Hope went on a counter attack with Bieri leading the charge through the open midfield. She passed forward to Nora Kirk, who beat the keeper one-on-one to snatch the win for the Flying Dutch.
