Maroons women's soccer tops Case 1-0

CHICAGO, Ill. -- The University of Chicago women's soccer team scored early in the game and outlasted Case Western Reserve University 1-0 on Sunday.

The Maroons moved to 9-3-2 overall and 2-1-1 in the UAA. The Spartans fell to 7-7-1 overall, 0-3-1 UAA.

UChicago struck first at the 11:28 mark. Senior forward Natalia Jovanovic booted a corner kick to the back left post where senior midfielder Micaela Harms headed the ball in for her sixth goal of the season. The Maroons were adept at earning corners in the first half with eight total.

Case almost evened the score in the first minute of the second half. Maroons junior goalie Jacinda Reid came off her line to stop an oncoming rush, but then had to quickly recover backwards to save a shot at the goal line. Reid finished the game with two saves and earned the shutout to improve her season record to 3-2-2.

The Maroons ended up leading the shots (16-9) and corner kicks (13-4) categories by a comfortable margin.
