Box Score CHICAGO, Ill. -- Natalia Jovanovic broke free and scored the game-winning goal in overtime to give the University of Chicago women's soccer team a 2-1 victory over University of Wisconsin-Oshkosh on Wednesday.
The Maroons (10-3-2) won their third in-a-row and snapped the Titans' (10-6-1) seven-match win streak.
Play started evenly and UChicago controlled the action more and more as the half went on. The Maroons kept putting balls into space behind the defense, but the UWO goalie got there first to thwart the runs.
The hosts got onto the scoreboard in the 23rd minute when senior forward Jovanovic blasted the ball into goal from 15 yards out. Senior midfielder Micaela Harms assisted on the play. At the half, UChicago led 1-0 with the advantage in shots (8-5) and corner kicks (3-0).
The Maroons had a number of chances to increase the lead in the second half. UChicago demonstrated its creativity in setting up the forwards, but the Titans stopped several point-blank looks with saves or blocks. Wisconsin-Oshkosh eventually tied the score in the 81st minute on a run in transition. A cross from the left traversed the goal mouth and Ashley Markowiak scored from in close on the right side.
In overtime, Jovanovic sealed the game in the 94th minute with her second goal of the day. Junior midfielder Sara Kwan fed Jovanovic on the run up the right side and the senior smacked a shot that hit the left post and went in.
UChicago totaled 20 shots and six corner kicks compared to 13 shots and three corners by Wisconsin-Oshkosh. Junior goalkeeper Jacinda Reid made five saves with one goal allowed to improve her season record to 4-2-2.
