UChicago women's soccer ties Wheaton 1-1

Box Score

CHICAGO, Ill. -- After 110 minutes of fast-paced action, the University of Chicago women's soccer team ended up with a 1-1 tie against No. 1-ranked Wheaton College on Wednesday. The Maroons are now 7-2-2 on the season and the Thunder are 11-0-1.

UChicago put pressure on Wheaton right from the opening whistle. The Maroons drove forward with purpose and struck pay dirt seven minutes into the game. Senior midfielder Micaela Harms took a shot from the top of the box that went just inside the right post for her fifth goal of the year.

The frenetic pace continued for the entire match as each side took turns making runs at the opposing goal. The Maroons went into halftime with the 1-0 lead. However, the Thunder held a 12-4 advantage in shots.

Wheaton eventually evened the score at 1-1 in the 68th minute when a strike from the top right of the box was deposited in the back left of the goal. With about eight minutes remaining in the game, the Thunder scored again, but the goal was disallowed due to obstruction.

A pair of 10-minute overtimes did not produce another score and the game ended in a 1-1 tie. UChicago junior goalkeeper Jacinda Reid (1-1-2) turned in a career-best 18 saves, including several acrobatic denials. Her most clutch stop came with 1:30 left in regulation as she dove full out to stop an eight-yard strike by the right post.

Wheaton finished with 27 shots compared to nine shots by UChicago. The Thunder also led the corner kicks category 9-6.
