Box Score ST. LOUIS, Mo. -- In their season finale, the University of Chicago women's basketball team was defeated 65-48 at No. 22-ranked Washington University-St. Louis on Saturday.
The Maroons end the year with a final record of 7-18 overall and a 3-11 mark in the UAA. The Bears improved to 20-5 overall, 10-4 in conference action.
Washington ran out to a 12-0 lead to start the game as UChicago struggled to execute on offense. The Maroons missed their first seven shots and turned the ball over six times before scoring their first points. The hosts forced 14 turnovers in the first half and led 28-18 at halftime. WashU shot only 33 percent from the field, while UChicago shot 35 percent, including 4-for-9 on three pointers. Senior guard Jenna Lillemoe led the Maroons with six points at the break.
In the second half, UChicago got within seven points on two different occasions, including 51-44 with 5:40 left on the clock. The Bears closed out the game on a 14-4 run to get the victory.
Washington led wire-to-wire in the game with a 30-14 points in the paint advantage and a 39-32 rebounding edge. The Bears also took 23 free throws compared to only two free throws by the Maroons. Junior guard Julie Muguira paced UChicago with 14 points.
