Box Score CHICAGO, Ill. -- The University of Chicago women's basketball team was held to 25 percent shooting from the field and lost to University of Rochester 58-37 on Friday.
The Maroons fell to 7-14 overall, with a 3-7 mark in the UAA. The Yellowjackets improved to 16-5 overall and 8-2 in the conference.
The opening minutes played out evenly as the scored stood tied at nine points apiece. Rochester found success with post-entry passes to their forwards in the middle of the paint. UChicago countered the tactic by collapsing on the entry passes with multiple defenders and forcing turnovers. After the Yellowjackets went up 17-11, the Maroons countered right back to tie the game at 17-17 by pushing the pace offensively.
However, Rochester kept running its sets and manufactured open looks for the guards by running around multiple screens. UChicago struggled with its offensive execution and the visitors embarked on a 15-1 run over the next 10 minutes. Jenna Lillemoe's three-pointer with four seconds left pulled the Maroons to within 32-21 at halftime.
At the break, Rochester was shooting almost 20 percent higher from the field (48 percent to 28.6 percent). Ellie Greiner and Claire Devaney scored six points each in the first half for UChicago.
In the second half, the Maroons didn't have an answer offensively and the Yellowjackets put the game out of reach with a 22-4 run. Rochester kept muscling its way into the blocks and pulled down a plethora of offensive rebounds to get second looks at the basket.
The visitors won the rebounding battle 50-38, which marks the first time in nine games that the Maroons didn't lead that category. After hitting a three-pointer to open the game, UChicago missed 16 of its 17 three-point attempts.
