GREENCASTLE, Ind. -- The No. 3-ranked University of Chicago women's tennis team kicked off the ITA Indoor Championships with a dominating 9-0 victory over the No. 17-ranked University of Wisconsin-Whitewater on Friday.
The Maroons (3-2) swept all their matches in straight sets and dealt the Warhawks (10-1) their first loss of the year. UChicago came in as the top seed and Wisconsin-Whitewater was the eighth seed.
"I thought we played pretty well for our first match of the Championship," said UChicago Head Coach Jay Tee. "We are a young team, and we suffered some nerves on a few courts, but we worked through them. We are really going to have to play well against Johns Hopkins tomorrow for us to have a chance."
