CHICAGO, Ill. -- The University of Chicago baseball team lost game one 10-5 and rallied late to win 2-1 in game two of a doubleheader versus Washington University-St. Louis on Sunday.

The Maroons ran their record to 18-11 while the Bears moved to 22-14.

Game One - Washington-St. Louis 10, UChicago 5

WashU started fast in the top of the first inning with a two-run double to the gap. In the top of the second, UChicago got the benefit of a highlight-reel catch by right fielder Brett Huff. Huff sprinted back and dove full out to rob the Bears of an extra-base hit.

Huff then produced with his bat in the bottom of the second by driving a double to right center. He would later score on Dylan Massey's RBI sacrifice fly to center field to make the score 2-1.

The visitors built their lead to 6-1 with four runs in the third inning. The Bears stole three bases in the frame, including a delayed steal of home plate. An RBI single, double and sacrifice fly accounted for the other runs. A solo home run in the top of the fifth made the score 7-1.

UChicago got its offense rolling in the bottom of the fifth and clawed back to within 7-5. Two singles and a walk loaded the bases with one out. Steven Schwabe and Jack Cinoman delivered back-to-back RBI singles and Kyle Engel bounced a two-run single down the left field line.

WashU responded in the top of the sixth with a two-out, two-run triple to push the advantage back up to 9-5. The Bears added one more run in the seventh on a bases-loaded squeeze bunt.

UChicago totaled 10 hits. Cinoman hit 3-for-4 with one RBI and Massey was 2-for-2 with one RBI.

The Maroons used five pitchers over the course of seven innings. Alex Terry (1-3) started the game on the mound and lasted two innings, allowing six hits, six runs and one walk with one strikeout. Kyle Nitiss threw three innings with two hits, one run and three walks. Chris Warren tossed 2/3 of an inning, surrendering two runs on two hits. Ray Kim hurled 1/3 of an inning with one hit allowed. William Katzka came in for the seventh inning with one hit, one run, two walks and one strikeout.

Game Two - UChicago 2, Washington-St. Louis 1

UChicago's Ben Bullock led off game two by reaching second base on an outfield error and came around to score on Cinoman's RBI single. That 1-0 lead held until the sixth inning as neither team could squeeze across a run despite several opportunities. Lucas Friss was UChicago's starting pitcher and the freshman threw five solid innings, limiting the Bears to one run on six hits with two strikeouts.

WashU started the sixth inning with a single and two steals to get the runner to third. An RBI infield single tied the game at 1-1, and the Bears threatened to go ahead with runners on second and third with one out. However, Katzka entered the game on the hill in relief and ended the inning with a strikeout and a lineout to maintain the tie.

The Maroons took advantage of WashU miscues in the bottom of the sixth to score the go-ahead run. J.R. Lopez reached on an infield throwing error and moved to second on Huff's sacrifice bunt. Lopez moved to third base and then slid into home plate thanks to back-to-back wild pitches.

Katzka finished off the seventh to improve his record to 2-0. He allowed one hit and struck out one. UChicago had four hits in the game, with Cinoman going 2-for-3.
