Box Score LISLE, Ill. -- After falling behind 6-0 early on, Benedictine University rallied past the University of Chicago baseball team 7-6 on Wednesday.
The Maroons evened their record at 7-7 while the Eagles improved to 12-4.
UChicago jumped ahead of the hosts with one run in the second inning and five runs in the third inning. Ben Bullock put the first score on the board with an RBI single down the left field line. Brett Huff got the big second inning going with an RBI double to left field and then scored on Ricky Troncelliti's single. Tim Sonnefeldt singled up the middle for another score and Bullock cleared the bases with a two-run triple to right field to make the score 6-0.
However, Benedictine began its comeback in the fifth inning with three runs to chop the deficit in half. The Eagles added one more in the sixth inning and started off the eighth by reaching base on an error. The hosts then scored on a single and a throwing error to tie the game at 6-6, and the winning run came in on a sacrifice fly.
UChicago's offense ended up with nine hits and committed two errors defensively. Bullock hit 2-for-4 at the plate with three RBI. Sonnefeldt (one RBI) and Steven Schwabe also went 2-for-4.
Matt O'Connor started the game on the mound for the Maroons and lasted six innings. The senior's pitching line included six hits, four runs, two walks and eight strikeouts. Drew Nicholson threw one inning with two runs (one earned) and one strikeout. Reliever Ray Kim (2-1) took the loss in his one inning of work, allowing two hits and one unearned run.
