NAPERVILLE, Ill. -- The University of Chicago baseball team followed up a 19-hit effort in game one with a shutout in game two for a doubleheader sweep over North Central College 10-8 and 3-0 on Tuesday.

The Maroons improved to 20-11 while the Cardinals fell to 16-18.

Game One - UChicago 10, North Central 8

North Central went ahead 1-0 on an error in the bottom of the first inning. UChicago quickly struck back with three runs in the second inning. Dylan Massey recorded an RBI single, Ricky Troncelliti scored on a double play and Steven Schwabe smacked an RBI single down the right field line to take a 3-1 lead.

The home team re-took the advantage with four runs in the bottom of the third. Once again, the Maroons answered in the fourth, starting with Schwabe's RBI double. Tony Logli and Schwabe both slid into home plate back-to-back on wild pitches.

Kyle Engel drove in a run with a single through the left side in the sixth inning to put UChicago up 7-5. In the seventh, Logli and Ben Bullock stroked back-to-back RBI doubles, with Engel adding another RBI single to take a 10-5 advantage in the final inning. The Cardinals scored three runs in the bottom of the seventh, including a two-run homer. However, Maroons pitcher William Katzka entered the game and forced a groundout to pick up his second save of the season.

UChicago pounded out 19 hits and committed three errors defensively. Massey was a perfect 4-for-4 in the batter's box with one RBI. Bullock went 4-for-5 with one RBI. Schwabe hit 3-for-4 with two RBI, while Engel (two RBI) and Brett Huff tallied two hits each.

Drew Nicholson (2-1) got the win as the senior struck out four in 4-1/3 innings pitched to go with eight hits and five runs (four earned). Anthony DeRenzo hurled 2-1/3 innings of relief with six hits and three runs allowed. Katzka finished off the final 1/3 of an inning.

Game Two - UChicago 3, North Central 0

UChicago wasted no time in game two as the first three batters reached base in the top of the first inning. J.R. Lopez cleared the bases with a three-run double.

North Central also loaded the bases in the first inning, but Maroons pitcher Andrew VanWazer escaped the jam without any damage. From that point on, VanWazer (2-3) held the Cardinals in check and stranded seven more runners. The sophomore tossed an eight-hit shutout over seven innings with three walks and four strikeouts.

The Maroons collected seven hits, with Bullock and Schwabe getting two hits apiece.
