Box Score RIVER FOREST, Ill. -- Despite grabbing an early lead, the University of Chicago baseball team lost at No. 22-ranked Concordia University Chicago 14-4 on Friday.
The Maroons fell to 21-12 on the season while the Cougars improved to 29-5.
In the top of the second inning, UChicago got a lead-off single from J.R. Lopez and a double by Brett Huff. Ricky Troncelliti and Dylan Massey followed up with a pair of RBI groundouts to stake the visitors to a 2-0 lead.
Concordia Chicago evened the game in the bottom of the second with two RBI singles. Two UChicago errors led to one unearned run for the Cougars in the bottom of the fourth, and the home side broke it open with five runs in the bottom of the fifth to go up 8-2.
Kyle Engel's single, Lopez's walk and Huff's single loaded the bases with one out in the sixth for the Maroons. Troncelliti then coaxed an RBI walk on a full count to put a run on the board. Massey's sacrifice fly brought in another to make the score 8-4. However, the Cougars tallied six runs in the eighth inning to end the game via the 10-run rule.
The Maroons ended up with eight hits while committing six errors on defense. Jack Cinoman and Huff both went 2-for-4, while Troncelliti and Massey collected two RBI each.
Alex Terry (1-4) started the game on the mound and took the loss. The junior worked five innings with 10 hits, eight runs (seven earned), one walk and two strikeouts. Ray Kim came on in relief in the sixth inning and went two innings with nine hits, six runs (four earned) and two strikeouts.
