Box Score NAPERVILLE, Ill. -- The University of Chicago women's soccer team shutout its second-straight opponent with a 4-0 victory over North Central College on Monday.
The No. 25-ranked Maroons improved to 2-0-0 on the season while the Cardinals (0-1-0) dropped their season opener.
UChicago got on the scoreboard with a pair of goals that came within 41 seconds of each other. Senior midfielder Beatrice Hobson scored a goal with an assist from senior forward Natalia Jovanovic at the 20:22 mark of the first half. Less than a minute later, Jovanovic assisted on another score, this time by junior forward Meghan Derken at 21:03.
The visitors added to their tally in the 60th minute when freshman defender Bailey Sayin notched her first career collegiate goal with dual assists from Jovanovic and Harms. The fourth and final score came from sophomore forward Mary Bittner in the 69th minute. Senior forward Kelsey Peterson and sophomore midfielder Naomi Pacalin were credited with assists on the play.
In total, UChicago outshot North Central 16-6 in the game, with an 8-2 edge in corner kicks. Maroons goalie Mallory Morse made three saves to improve to 2-0-0. The junior netminder has not yet allowed a goal in 180 minutes of action.
