Maroon women's soccer falls to Carnegie Mellon 2-1

CHICAGO, Ill. – In a battle of nationally-ranked conference foes, the visitors came out on top as University of Chicago women's soccer team lost to Carnegie Mellon University 2-1 on Saturday.

The No. 12-ranked Maroons dropped to 9-2-0 overall and 0-1-0 in the University Athletic Association (UAA). The No. 4-ranked Tartans improved to 9-0-0 and 1-0-0 in league play.

UChicago outshot Carnegie Mellon 7-5 in the opening half. However, the Tartans were opportunistic with goals in the 11th and 22nd minutes. The two sides alternated offensive runs in the second half and the Maroons halved the deficit in the 83rd minute. Freshman forward Mia Calamari delivered a corner kick into the box that the goalie got a hand on. Junior midfielder Naomi Pacalin corralled the deflection and scored on her shot to the top left corner. UChicago pushed hard for the equalizer, but Carnegie Mellon's defense held in the final minutes.

The Maroons led the shots category 13-12 and corner kicks were even at six apiece. Senior goalkeeper Jacinda Reid (4-2-0) played the first half with two saves and two goals allowed. Fellow senior goalie Mallory Morse entered in the second half and collected two saves.
