UChicago women's soccer loses 1-0 at Washington-St. Louis

ST. LOUIS, Mo. – The No. 11-ranked University of Chicago women's soccer team closed out its regular season schedule with a 1-0 loss at No. 17-ranked Washington University-St. Louis on Saturday.

The Maroons (13-4-1 overall) placed second in the final University Athletic Association (UAA) standings at 4-2-1. The Bears (13-3-2 overall) tied for fourth at 3-3-1 in the UAA.

UChicago is now an at-large candidate for the upcoming NCAA Division III Championship. The NCAA selection show will announce qualifiers and pairings at 1:00 PM (ET) on Monday: http://www.ncaa.com/liveschedule/2014/11/10.

The visitors controlled the first half with a 10-1 shot advantage and two close calls almost resulted in Maroon goals. Freshman defender Kaitlin Price's header was saved in the 14th minute. Then in the 27th minute, freshman forward Mia Calamari hit the post with a shot which was then saved off the ricochet. Washington-St. Louis went ahead early in the second half at the 47:11 mark when Katie Chandler scored from 25 yards to the far left corner. That tally stood up the rest of the match.

In the final stats, the Maroons held sizable advantages in shots (15-8) and corner kicks (8-1). Senior goalkeeper Jacinda Reid played the first half of the game and senior goalkeeper Mallory Morse (8-2-0) took the loss in the second half. Morse made two saves and allowed one goal.
