GREENCASTLE, Ind. – The University of Chicago women's tennis team beat Pomona-Pitzer Colleges 6-3 in the third-place match of the 2014 Division III National Women's Team Indoor Championship on Sunday.
The No. 2-seed Maroons (5-2) started the day with a two wins in doubles over the No. 4-seed Sagehens (2-2). Junior Megan Tang and sophomore Helen Sdvizhkov were victorious at No. 1 and freshman Tiffany Chen and sophomore Sruthi Ramaswami were also winners at No. 2.
In singles play, Tang only surrendered two games to win handily at the No. 1 spot. At No. 3, Chen split a pair of 6-0 sets before taking the third 6-2. Ramaswami then picked up the clinching match 6-1, 6-1 at No. 5. Freshman Laura Anderson added one more point for the Maroons with her win at No. 6 singles.
"The difference in today's match over yesterday was attitude and energy," said Head Coach Jay Tee. "We made a point to come out with a more positive attitude and it showed in our results. We need to remember our mentality from this match as we go forward the rest of the year."
