CLAREMONT, Calif. – The University of Chicago women's tennis team started its spring break trip with an 8-1 loss at Claremont-Mudd-Scripps on Sunday.
The No. 11-ranked Maroons dropped to 5-4 while the No. 5-ranked Athenas improved to 9-6.
UChicago's lone win on the day came from sophomore Stephanie Lee at No. 6 singles, who won by a score of 6-4, 6-2.
"Today was a tough test for us mentally and physically," said Head Coach Jay Tee. "To play a team as good as C-M-S as our first outdoor match of the year was definitely a challenge, but it wasn't the reason we lost. We needed to be a little more focused and play with more of an edge against a team that strong. We know that we will need to raise our level the next two matches if we hope to be successful."
