Box Score 1 | Box Score 2

AUBURNDALE, Fla. – The University of Chicago baseball team picked up its first win of the season in a doubleheader split versus University of Wisconsin-Oshkosh on Friday. The Maroons are now 1-9 on the year.

Game One – UChicago 8, Wisconsin-Oshkosh 5

The Maroons got off to a good start in the opener as senior pitcher Alex Terry struck out the first three hitters he faced. UChicago's bats then came alive in the bottom of the first inning with three runs. Senior outfielder Brett Huff knocked an RBI single and scored on junior third baseman Kyle Engel's triple to center field. Freshman Thomas Prescott came through with an RBI single of his own immediately after.

After the two teams exchanged runs in the second inning, the Titans cut the deficit to 4-2 with an RBI single in the third inning. But the Maroons broke clear with four runs in the sixth inning. Engel scored on a throwing error and UChicago strung together four-straight singles. Junior outfielder Edward Akers, senior shortstop Dylan Massey and senior outfielder Ricky Troncelliti were responsible for the RBI.

Wisconsin-Oshkosh made things interesting with three runs in the seventh, but Terry (1-1) finished off the Titans to get the complete-game victory. The senior lefty struck out a career-high 10 batters in seven innings while allowing 11 hits.

The Maroons also totaled 11 hits in the game. Massey, Prescott and Akers all collected two hits and one RBI apiece.

Game Two – Wisconsin-Oshkosh 7, UChicago 6

The Titans went up 2-0 after two innings via RBI single and a solo home run. UChicago tied the game at 2-2 following Engel's RBI double in the third inning and Massey's RBI single in the fourth inning.

The Maroons put up another big inning the very next frame. Junior catcher Brenden Dunleavy's RBI groundout put them ahead at 3-2. Consecutive hit-by-pitches filled the bases and junior Anthony DeRenzo cleared them with a three-run double.

Wisconsin-Oshkosh came back with three runs of its own in the bottom of the fifth thanks to a two-run homer and a run-scoring single. A leadoff home run in the bottom of the sixth tied the score and the Titans plated the winning run soon after on a double to right field.

With one out left in the game, the Maroons put the tying run on third base but weren't able to bring him home as the Titans clinched the win on a grounder. Sophomore starting pitcher Lucas Friss (0-1) took the loss in 5-2/3 innings. He also compiled a career-high 10 strikeouts while surrendering 11 hits and one walk. Senior relief pitcher Ray Kim struck out one and gave up two hits in his 1/3 of an inning.

UChicago posted 10 hits and made one error defensively. Massey (one RBI), Engel (one RBI) and Troncelliti each recorded a 2-for-4 showing at the plate.
