Box Score CHICAGO, Ill. – With a postseason bid on the line, the University of Chicago women's basketball team hung close the whole way before losing at No. 9-ranked Washington University-St. Louis 63-56 on Saturday.
The Maroons (18-7 overall, 12-2 UAA) had their 12-game win streak snapped and finished as co-champions in the University Athletic Association (UAA). The Bears (23-2, 12-2) earned the conference's automatic berth into the NCAA postseason due to the head-to-head tiebreaker.

UChicago went up 7-6 on a fast-break layup by sophomore forward Britta Nordstrom. WashU responded by hitting back-to-back three pointers, but the Maroons immediately went on an 11-0 run to go up 18-12. The visitors scored four layups and a three-pointer during the point streak.
WashU took back control as the half progressed thanks to in part to offensive rebounding. The Bears had a 26-21 rebounding edge in the first half, including 14-5 on the offensive glass. The home side closed the period on a 14-6 run and led at the break 29-26.
The Maroons shot 40.7 percent on its field goals compared to 25.7 percent by the Bears. But UChicago was whistled for 12 fouls in the half, as four different players had two fouls each. The forward trio of senior Claire Devaney, senior Ali Shaw and Nordstrom all scored six points each.
UChicago got many of its points down low in the paint during the second half. Layups from Nordstrom and Devaney tied the game at 38-38. WashU jumped ahead 47-40 after that and kept its lead for the remainder of the game.
The Bears were up seven (57-50) with one minute to play in regulation. But freshman guard Elizabeth Nye kept things interesting by making a pair of free throws and then hitting a three-pointer to get within two points. However, UChicago missed its last two treys and WashU converted six free throws to clinch the win.
In the final stats, the Maroons led points in the paint 36-22. The Bears held sway on the boards 44-41, and also had the advantage on turnovers, 18 to 22. Nye scored 10 of her team-high 13 points in the second half.
